Lovely review! And I must say, Colin's bad boy makeover was truly so random and sudden I felt as though it gave me whiplash. However, I find a way to continue loving this show no matter what the missteps.

Love that you came around and agree so much on the superiority of S2 and wanting S3 to be more distinct. It needed more John Hughes Some Kind of Wonderful zaniness.

Exactly! They needed to lean into Colin's fundamental Duckie-ness and not make him a Blane.

Yesss. I wrote a post all about that 😂 And the fact they didn’t show him running after the carriage?? Immediate fail.

In fact, at this point the most light-hearted sex is between Kate and Anthony (which really started at the end of season 2) -- the actors are now playing them in rom-com mode, while the rest of season three seems to be some other kind of mess entirely...

As you mentioned, this is 4 episodes, we still have 4 more episodes to go. If you were to review season 2 at midpoint, things wouldn’t be fleshed out as well. Colin’s change is supposed to come off strange, he is playing a part, something that was pointed out by numerous characters . I loved all the seasons but it’s ridiculous the amount of shade this season is getting before we see all 8 episodes.

I'd absolutely love for the back half of S3 to win me over (and I still mostly enjoyed watching the first four eps), but S2 was definitely working way better for me by the halfway point so I don't think it's a totally unfair comparison to make either. I do wish Netflix had just released the whole season at once, though. I think they're sacrificing the artistic flow for the gamble of getting subscribers to stick around.
