I fell in love with your writing when you were doing Romance Met Comedy and am so grateful that you've found a place to continue at your own pace and on the subjects you're most interested in covering! You're my favorite entertainment writer by a mile. I'm glad you took the time you needed in 2023 and I can't wait to see what this year has in store!

I used to love when you would highlight movies that were underrated, underloved, or had sometimes just faded from the cultural memory at large (for example Mississippi Masala, which I hadn't heard of before your writeup), so I hope you continue to occasionally dip into that kind of well here on this column. But I'll happily follow along wherever you go. Thanks for doing what you do!

Love this, Caroline! So great to catch up on your 2023 progress and travails. I’m looking forward to learning what 2024 brings your way. Somehow I’m sure it’s going to be a doozy for us all.

Me for one am very happy to see you still writing! Sometimes we all just need that break to clear head, like time me briefly got into eating vegetables. Once me got that out of system, me fell in love with cookies all over again!

A bit late to the party but I am really glad to hear that you feel in a better place and that you are feeling optimistic about the future!

I discovered you on The AV Club with your reviews of Iron Fist which were so insightful as well as hilariously (and rightfully) annoyed at the show. You managed to create an amazing sense of community around these reviews.

That led me to tracking your work and discovering the When Romance met Comedy which I found fascinating and led me to discovering a lot of hidden gems (Saving Face for ever 😍).

And while I am obviously following your reviews at Episodic Medium after having petitioned to get you on the roster, I am really glad that you created your own space here at Girl Culture. Can't wait to read your next posts!

I've so enjoyed having Girl Culture in my inbox this year! (I also spent a few months taking a break this year as I started the process of switching my "career" and so really appreciated your sentences about both how wonderful and unmoored that time feels.)

I'm not in a position to subscribe right now but hopefully that will change soon. As a free subscriber though, I would not be at all upset if you added tiers and put some posts in that paid tier though if that's at all helpful feedback!

Thank you, Ben! For now, I really like the fact that everything I write here is available for everybody to read/share, but I appreciate your vote of confidence. I hope your career switch has been going well and continues into even smoother waters in 2024!

So what do you have planned for 2024? You hadn't posted in a couple months, so I recently paused my subscription (which is a nice feature to have).

Thanks for asking! I did wind up taking December off because the holidays just got too hectic. (Although I published three pieces in November!) But I'll be back on my normal 1-2 posts a month schedule now, and I'm hoping to kick things off with a piece on Mean Girls, tied to the new movie musical adaptation!

I'm glad that pause button exists to give everyone the flexibility they need. Self-publishing on Girl Culture provides a similar sense of freedom and flexibility for me, and a big part of the reason I wanted to release everything for free on here is so that I can write when it fits into my bigger life/work schedule without the pressure of living up to any specific deadlines I've promised paid subscribers.

Other stuff I'd love to write about this year includes It Happened One Night, Madame Web, J.Lo's wild looking new project, and some more "random thoughts on" entries about streaming rom-coms.
