Wonderful write-up! I saw her in Chicago and am seeing her again in L.A. (this was not the plan but when the opportunity arose, how could I not), and I am trying to learn all the lyrics and special chants (even my Swiftie sister didn't tell me about "Sydney") so I can be a bigger part of that grand communal experience!

Yeah, I was kind of surprised by how much the communal aspect of it all felt equal to the actual show itself. Fun vibes for sure. I hope your LA show is a blast!

(And the Sydney chant comes from her 1989 World Tour. She got each crowd to chant their city name during "Blank Space," but since the concert film was recorded in Sydney, Australia that's the one that stuck https://www.youtube.com/watch?v=hC71Chcwafk)

I hope I get some good surprise songs in L.A. I felt like we won the Surprise Song Lottery in Chicago because the night we went, we got TWO live debuts, "The Moment I Knew" and "Hits Different" (which my sister hadn't even heard before and was surprised everyone already knew the lyrics, but of course they did). I checked the other Chicago nights, and I would have been less enthused about some of the other selections. So here's hoping she doesn't play, like, two of my least favorite songs next Tuesday!

Funnily enough, that's the show I was outside the stadium for in Chicago!! Totally agree that "Hits Different" was a real winner, surprise-song wise. Even outside, where we could barely hear the acoustic set, people were excited.

What?! Awww, I love that we were "at" the same show!

"Hits Different" was a delightful surprise because it had only been out for, like, a couple weeks at that point, if that, so who would have expected to hear it at the show?! And it's definitely a good song even if she's falling back on her "The Very First Night" vocal melody (which I love). The crowd was SUPER into it, so much fun.

What's the album that's left out of the show? Is it her debut?

It is, yeah. She'll sometimes do something from her debut album as one of her two surprise songs each night, but it doesn't get a featured moment in the permanent setlist.
